 Caring Hearts and Helping Hands
Entirely
staffed by volunteers, the Fayette Samaritans is a Christian outreach ministry
that serves Fayette County residents in need. The group receives daily support
from over 50 Fayette County member churches, the United Way and local civic
organizations as well as individuals and families.
“We were
organized in 1991 by representatives from Fayette County churches with the
express purpose of assessing and coordinating to supply the critical needs of
residents who didn’t qualify for assistance from other agencies,” says
Samaritan Lynn Roberts. “We’re ready with a helping hand to provide food,
clothing and financial assistance for selected emergency needs.”
There is always
a need for items to stock the food pantry and clothing collection, of course.
Ongoing needs at Fayette Samaritans include toiletries, household cleaning
supplies, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter and jelly, canned meats
and soup, all sizes of new socks and underwear and diapers in sizes 4, 5 and 6.
Volunteers and
financial support are also welcome and greatly appreciated. Lynn says that if
someone can work just one day a week, they can make a real difference. Even if
you can’t make that commitment, however, donations and prayers help Fayette
Samaritans to continue doing their good work.
You can feel
confident that your donation is going where it’s needed most. “Since we have an
all-volunteer staff, less than 2% of the money we collect is needed for
overhead,” Lynn explains, “so 98% of the donations we receive go directly to
our clients.”
